Sustainability & Impact
Sustainability is how we create value.
At Clawback, sustainability is not a separate initiative or a reporting requirement — it is central to our business model. Every company we own was selected because it actively contributes to solving environmental challenges while generating strong cash flows. Impact and returns are not in tension; they are mutually reinforcing.
Our Sustainability Philosophy
Regenerate, don't deplete.
We believe that the most durable businesses of the 21st century will be those that regenerate rather than deplete natural systems. Our portfolio is concentrated in companies that close material loops, sequester carbon, restore soil health, protect biodiversity, and produce essential goods with dramatically lower environmental footprints than conventional alternatives.
We integrate ESG considerations into every investment and operational decision, prioritize carbon-negative or regenerative solutions, and measure and report on key impact metrics — carbon sequestration, soil health, water recovery, avoided emissions. Impact is not a separate report; it is built into the cash-flow model of each company we own.
Portfolio-Level ESG Highlights
Measurable outcomes, across four dimensions.
Climate & Carbon
- CaptureBank systems sequester 2–3 tonnes of CO₂e per tonne of biochar produced, with storage lasting over 1,000 years.
- Silex Ocean's production is fully carbon-negative, actively removing CO₂ while replacing fish oil and synthetic ingredients.
- Combined, our portfolio contributes to Norway's and the EU's climate targets across waste, agriculture, and marine resource extraction.
Circular Economy & Resource Efficiency
- CaptureBank converts waste that would otherwise generate methane or require costly disposal into valuable products — supporting the EU Circular Economy Action Plan and RENURE nutrient regulations.
- Silex Ocean operates 100% circular systems with minimal waste and full biomass utilization.
- Closed-loop photobioreactors use far less land and water than traditional agriculture or wild harvesting.
Biodiversity & Ecosystems
- Silex Ocean reduces pressure on wild fish stocks by providing sustainable, plant-based Omega-3 alternatives.
- CaptureBank's biochar improves soil health, increases soil organic carbon, and reduces nutrient runoff that causes eutrophication.
- Over 60% of European water bodies are currently affected by eutrophication — our portfolio actively addresses this.
Social & Health Impact
- Silex Ocean's compounds support cardiovascular health, cognitive function, and eye health for millions of consumers worldwide.
- CaptureBank improves food security by boosting crop yields in degraded soils by 20–80%.
- Customer input costs reduced by 50–75% through CaptureBank's on-site waste-to-value processing.
Governance & Transparency
Honest reporting, audited outcomes.
We are committed to transparent reporting of both financial and ESG performance. As we grow, we will align our disclosures with leading international frameworks (including CSRD where applicable) and provide stakeholders with clear, audited metrics on the environmental outcomes of our portfolio.
Our Ambition
Compounding positive impact, decade after decade.
As an evergreen company, we have the privilege — and the responsibility — to think in generational terms. Our goal is to build a portfolio that, over decades, removes millions of tonnes of CO₂ from the atmosphere, regenerates millions of hectares of soil, protects marine ecosystems, and provides sustainable nutrition and energy to communities around the world — all while delivering attractive, compounding returns to our stakeholders.
